Hepatitis C

Individuals who are potentially at risk of hepatitis C infection (e.g. people who have shared needles and other injecting equipment, or who have had a needlestick injury, or men who have sex with men that have engaged in mucosally traumatic condomless anal sex) require baseline and follow-up testing for hepatitis C.23 Referral may be required if hepatitis C seroconversion is detected. Patients should be informed about the symptoms of acute hepatitis, with advice to present if these occur. New, highly effective antiviral treatments are available.
